The First Hunt

A Hunting Book for Children

This book is the true story about  two South Dakota families and their experiences of hunting together. This story describes the passing down from one generation to the next the most essential values: respect for nature, honoring the experience of elders and sharing abundance.

The First Hunt is a tribute to how enduring friendships are built upon common interests. This story highlights how the tradition of hunting serves as an important rite of passage into adulthood. Just as the book spans the generations, so does its appeal to varying audiences.  The book is suitable as a read-aloud for young readers and can independently be read by upper-elementary aged children.

Published in paperback, the book contains twenty-four pages with ten original watercolor sketches by artist Thomas McAteer. Click here for Purchase Information
